Cuffing Day: A New Holiday Celebrating Intentional Love (December 7)
Every year as the air turns crisp and the holidays approach, conversations about cuffing season resurface. It’s that time – roughly from October through February – when singles naturally crave companionship during the colder, quieter months. But what if “cuffing season” wasn’t just about temporary comfort? That’s the idea behind Cuffing Day, a newly created holiday by After Hello, designed to give this seasonal instinct a deeper, more meaningful purpose.
What Is Cuffing Day?
Cuffing Day is a new holiday that redefines what “cuffing season” represents. Instead of fleeting connections, it encourages singles to pause and reflect on what they truly want in a partner and in love.In essence, Cuffing Day turns the “cuffing season” stereotype on its head. It’s a cultural invitation for singles to approach love not as a game, but as a genuine pursuit of happiness, belonging, and emotional fulfillment.
Why We Created Cuffing Day
In recent years, more adults have chosen to stay single. A Pew Research study shows that nearly half of U.S. singles aren’t even looking for a relationship, while the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy has declared loneliness and social isolation epidemic throughout the country. At After Hello, we believe independence is powerful – but connection is essential. Healthy relationships don’t just offer companionship; they improve health and boost happiness. This is confirmed by the 85-year-old Harvard Study of Adult Development, which found that strong relationships are the single biggest predictor of long-term well-being.
Cuffing Day is our response – a cultural counter-movement to “single by choice.” It reminds people that love is worth pursuing, not passively waiting for. Choosing love intentionally doesn’t weaken independence; it strengthens fulfillment.
